Slate Saddle Ridge
The most common slate ridge installation in the US is the saddle ridge. Properly sized ridge slate shows a reveal that approximates the exposure of the field slate. Typically, each ridge slate laps the one before by half, and the caps are often step-flashed with a waterproof membrane. Experienced roofing professionals often differ on the finer points of design and technique. Publications including both "The Slate Roof Bible" and "The Slate Book" cover slate ridge installation in more detail and should be consulted as needed.
