A former science teacher and builder, Chuck started the slate business in the early 1970s. With almost 40 years of experience handling both new and salvaged roofing slate, he is the institutional knowledge and the "gray hair" behind our success.

Gary Otto

Gary started at New England Slate when tractor trailers were still loaded by hand and slate was stacked in a field. We've come a long way in the last quarter century, and Gary has been a part of it all. With his hands-on knowledge of the material and decades of experience assembling orders and handling delivery logistics for jobsites around the world, Gary is the go to guy for getting material to the jobsite on schedule.

Larry Rowe

Larry meshes nearly a decade of experience at a prominent design/build firm with 10 years of slate experience here at New England Slate to offer our customers thoughtful and detailed advice on how to successfully integrate slate roofing into their building project. A former high school math teacher, Larry frequently does take-offs from plans to confirm quantities of material, lays out graduation patterns and perfects custom blends of size, thickness, and color.

Clay Heald

Born and raised in the heart of the Slate Valley, Clay possesses intimate knowledge of all the local quarries and producers. Clay puts that lifetime of knowledge to work finding the best sources of slate for our customers. Whether he is matching an existing slate; selecting source quarries for the best quality and availability; or shepherding our orders through the production process; Clay is always working to make your slate roofing job a success.

Chris Smid

Chris grew up riding in the pickup truck with his father delivering slate to customers all over the country, and spent school vacations checking, sorting, punching and palletizing slate. After spending a decade living and working out of state, Chris came back to Vermont and the slate industry full time in 2003.
